Just when you think you’ve seen it all, eh? Well, by now we’ve all heard about Infinity Ward, the team currently in charge of the Call Of Duty series, with their more notable title, Modern Warfare 2, on the edge of release. Of course with every major gaming title, it’s suitable for the company to purchase the corresponding domain, right? (Such as ModernWarfare2.com).

However, the ZiiP Gaming Community has decided to shake things up a bit. They have purchased the domain “modernwarfare4.com”, and are offering the domain to Infinity Ward for a small ransom - a copy of Modern Warfare 4 (when released) to each and EVERY member of their community. (Registration is down at the time of posting, yes, I’ve tried) Yes, Modern Warfare 4, if any, is a long way off, but companies have a tendency to purchase domain names long before the actual game is announced.

Here is the message that was posted to Infinity Ward from the ZiiP Community:

They can switch, but they already have modernwarfare2.com so they probably want to continue the chain (modernwarfare3.com and so on)

You probably don't understand how domains work.
Once a site is registered under one site (let's say a site is registered under godaddy.com), nobody else can register the site under another registrar (like namecheap or n4me.)

That way, there cannot be two of the same domains.
